The US Department of State offers a wonderful resource on Diplomacy.
Diplomacy is all about relationships as they relate to resolving problems and advancing interests. Every person has it within themselves to be a diplomat. Each time a US Citizen travels abroad and interacts with natives of other countries or even interacts with someone visiting the US, diplomacy occurs. The Department of State refers to it as being a citizen diplomat. There is “an exchange of impressions and information about people and culture through individual contacts”.
Benjamin Franklin defined the qualities of a diplomat as “sleepless tact, unmovable calmness, and a patience that no folly, no provocation, no blunders may shake”. Does that describe you? If not, begin to explore ways that you can make it true of yourself.
